DESIRES LAID BARE · VERONICA YANHS
We found 16,500 subscribers hiding inside an eight-year-old YouTube channel.
Then we rebuilt the brand around them.
Talent Management · Media Strategy · Executive Production · Audience Development
When kink educator and operations consultant Veronica Yanhs mentioned an old YouTube project she'd abandoned eight years earlier, she remembered leaving behind about 2,300 subscribers.
There were 16,500.
SMG rebuilt Desires Laid Bare as a modern media property... developing the talent, editorial strategy, production infrastructure, audience systems, and business architecture needed to find out just how much potential had been sitting there all along.

It started over a pile of crab legs.
When Veronica first came to Sasquatch Media Grounds, Desires Laid Bare wasn't even part of the conversation.
She had dreamed for years about creating a podcast combining her experience in business with her expertise in kink. But by late 2025, after years of chasing B2B consulting contracts, she finally mentioned another project she'd quietly left behind.
We were cracking crab legs at Makoto in Vancouver when she told me about an old YouTube channel called Desires Laid Bare.
“Oh, it's just a small thing,” she said. She hadn't made a video in about eight years, and she remembered having around 2,300 subscribers.
I wiped the crab juice off my fingers and pulled up the channel.
16,500 subscribers.
People had continued finding the videos. Watching them. Commenting. Subscribing.
For eight years.
Veronica thought she needed help producing new content.
I saw something different.
The production wasn't the problem. The dormant demand was the opportunity.

Pre-production began in May 2026. The YouTube relaunch began July 29.
The old channel had something many new creators would kill for: evidence of persistent audience interest.
But the content itself was aging. Veronica had changed. YouTube had changed. The way people discover and build relationships with creators had changed.
Simply turning the cameras back on wasn't enough.
We weren't restarting a YouTube channel.
We were rebuilding a media property.
Talent was the raw material.
Infrastructure was the missing piece.
Veronica already had an unusually promising combination of ingredients: deep subject-matter expertise, natural charisma, business experience, an existing search footprint, and proof that people remained interested in her ideas long after she'd stopped publishing.
She also understood systems. In her other business, Veronica works professionally in operations and consulting.
That mattered.
Because building a creator brand isn't just about being interesting on camera. Eventually someone has to operate the damn thing.
What Desires Laid Bare didn't have was the modern media and business infrastructure to turn all those ingredients into something sustainable.
So SMG built it.
Editorial + Strategy
Audience research, positioning, SEO/AEO-informed topic development, keyword research, editorial planning, scripting systems, hooks, CTAs, and ongoing performance analysis.
Talent Development
On-camera coaching, microphone technique, script delivery, conversational hosting practice, batching, performance feedback, and development of Veronica's own editorial judgment.
Audience Development
Short-form strategy, repeatable content batches, email infrastructure, welcome sequence, audience conversion, organic experimentation, and systems for learning directly from audience behavior.
Full Production
Showrunning, studio recording, production bible, editing management, thumbnails, graphics, transcripts, optimized descriptions, publishing, and a long-form content runway extending well into the future.
Business Development
B2B workshop development, high-ticket sales training, consumer workshop pilots, lead-generation strategy, brand and UGC readiness, and a monetization plan designed to build revenue beyond platform payouts.
One of the most important discoveries didn't come from making the content more produced.
It came from making Veronica more recognizable as herself.
We built a repeatable short-form system around audience questions, stronger hooks, clearer calls to action, search and topic data, and natural talking-head delivery.
Then Veronica started publishing.
And the audience answered.
Then Veronica started talking.

This wasn't one lucky viral hit.
Multiple videos produced meaningful reach across the same early publishing period, giving us evidence that the audience wasn't merely responding to a topic.
They were responding to Veronica.
That changed the strategy.
Her audience doesn't need an overproduced influencer persona. They want good information, interesting conversations, useful kink education... and Veronica delivering it like Veronica.
Talent is developed, not discovered.
Being charismatic and being skilled media talent are not the same thing.
Veronica began this process with expertise, presence, and camera potential. She was also doing what many emerging creators do: performing a version of herself assembled from people she'd watched succeed online.
So part of the work became subtraction.
Less imitation. Less “internet person.” More Veronica.
She picked up hook delivery remarkably quickly. Calls to action were harder. Hosting an unscripted conversation while keeping it useful, interesting, and moving forward was harder still.
Because eating a microphone without filling it with junk words is a skill.
So is interviewing.
So is delivering a script without sounding like you're reading one.
So is knowing when a topic is interesting to you versus useful to your audience.
Those are learned skills... and they're learned through reps.
Today, Veronica is batching content consistently, developing a recognizable delivery rhythm, practicing long-form conversations, learning to identify audience signals herself, and using custom research systems built by SMG to strengthen her audience intelligence and editorial judgment.
She's becoming more capable of answering the question every working creator eventually has to learn to answer:
What should I make next... and why?
The goal of talent development isn't to make someone permanently dependent on a producer. It's to teach talented people to increasingly recognize for themselves what “good” looks like.
Not every good piece of media should go viral.
Some of the strongest audience signals were obvious.
BookTok and romance readers proved ravenous for approachable kink education. Search-friendly topics like Fifty Shades of Grey created natural discovery opportunities. Pop-culture conversations opened another door, including an episode about Veronica's kink awakening courtesy of... Red Jasmine from Aladdin.
Other topics have been quieter.
Conversations about trauma responses, ADHD, and kink haven't always produced the biggest numbers.
We keep making some of them anyway.
Because media strategy isn't simply finding the largest number and repeatedly punching it.
Those deeper subjects create connection, trust, and humanity around the person behind the brand.
The metric tells us what happened. It doesn't get to make every editorial decision.
Going viral was the beginning of the problem.
Rapid audience growth validated something important:
There is a market for Veronica's voice, expertise, and perspective.
It did not prove that Desires Laid Bare had become a sustainable business.
Attention, media value, and business-model validation are three different milestones.
That's why SMG isn't responding to early traction by simply yelling MORE CONTENT and throwing increasingly expensive production at an algorithm.
We already built a substantial content runway.
Now we're deliberately slowing down to speed up.
The next phase is about converting attention into infrastructure: strengthening the email audience, activating lead-generation systems, validating high-ticket B2B workshops and consumer education products, exploring aligned brand opportunities, and giving Veronica room to develop the operational muscles required to run the brand she's building.
The goal isn't to make Veronica famous.
The goal is to build a media business capable of surviving her becoming more visible.
What exists now that didn't before
A growing organic audience
Desires Laid Bare went from a cold social presence to nearly 12K Instagram followers in weeks... without paid acquisition.
A content runway
The production bible contains vetted topics and long-form inventory designed to support consistent publishing well into 2027.
A reactivated media property
An eight-year-dormant YouTube channel is publishing again with contemporary editorial strategy, production standards, and a clear long-form direction.
A repeatable production system
Research, scripting, recording, editing, publishing, short-form production, and performance analysis no longer live inside someone's head.
Products to validate
B2B leadership workshops and consumer education concepts give DLB revenue paths that don't depend on waiting for platform monetization.
An owned audience
DLB now has email infrastructure and is already converting viewers into subscribers before its full lead-magnet system is active.
Compounding audience intelligence
Every comment, search query, email reply, Reel, and long-form episode adds information about what this audience wants next.
A developing media talent
Veronica isn't merely publishing again. She's learning how to operate as working talent.
CASE STUDY UPDATED · SEPTEMBER 2026
This story isn't finished.
Desires Laid Bare is currently moving from its initial relaunch and acceleration phase into incubation + validation.
SMG continues to develop Veronica as talent while testing how audience attention converts into owned audience, product demand, partnerships, and sustainable revenue.
Because we don't think the useful part of a case study is pretending every experiment ends with a confetti cannon.
Sometimes the smartest growth decision is knowing when you've collected enough signal to stop accelerating... and start building underneath it.
We'll update this case study as the next phase develops.
HAVE SOMETHING WORTH AMPLIFYING?
You might not need more content.
You might need someone to recognize what you're already sitting on.
SMG works with founders, experts, and emerging talent to identify the media worth making, build the systems around it, develop the human behind it, and connect attention to an actual business objective.
Because hitting record is easy.
Building something worth returning to is the work.
